About Chanel

Exercise and physical activity has always been an important aspect of my life. Growing up netball & athletics were my two main sports and I represented both at regional level. Netball was my main passion and I progressed through the levels at national age groups, winning a National Title for Otago U'21's.  I represented Hawkes Bay, Manawatu and the Western Flyers at Senior National Province level for ten plus years.  I was semi professional, as a member of the Flyers team in the National Bank Cup for the 2005 & 2006 season.  I have also represented Manawatu in Basketball and played rugby for Kia Toa Women's Team.

My passion and interest in sport led to me pursing a career in this field where I completed a Bachelor Of Phyiscal Education at the University of Otago in 2000.  I then went on to Graduate with a Diploma of Teaching in Secondary Education from Dunedin College of Education in 2001. Since then I have taught Physical Education for 15 years and coached various sports teams. In my last teaching position I was Head of the Physical Education & Health Faculty.

Having moved to Ohope Beach and taken time out from teaching to raise three young children, I discovered the Pilates Reformer.  It wasn't long before I was hooked. I loved how challenging it was, how it made my body work/feel and the variety of exercises.  I decided to take my passion for the Pilates Method further by becoming a qualified Mat and Reformer Pilates Instructor through Studio Pilates International.

I believe physical activity and well-being are an integral part of a healthy and balanced lifestyle.  Fitness should be challenging yet enjoyable where the gains of the activity transfer over to benefit your every day life.
